Welcome to the 5TW class page where you will find pictures and updates on all the amazing things we will do this year!

Homework - Summer 1

 

Please see this half term's spelling homework, split into weekly sections.

 

Maths homework is to be completed via the My Maths website where tasks have been set for the children to complete over the course of this half term. The deadline for these to be completed is the 20th May.

 

All children have been given logins to take home - If these are lost please email learning support or let me know.

 

Science of Sound Workshop

 

Today we had an amazing science of sound workshop in which we learnt all about how sound travels through different materials and the way it acts.

Spring 2 2022

 

What an amazing half term. We have been so busy doing all sorts of exciting things in 5TW. This term has been action packed! We had World Book day, learnt how to draw 3D Tudor buildings using one point perspective and continued our animation workshops focusing on comics. We began our new book - The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo - and so did lots of research into Michael and the methods he used for writing. We had another STEAM day linked to our science topic of animal and humans with a focus on Life Cycles. Finally, we have designed and built Tudor Houses from recyclable materials. It has been such a fun half term!

World Book Day 2022

 

We had an a amazing day for World Book Day. We went over to  different classes to learn lots of fantastic things covering a variety of books. It was great to learn with children from across the whole school. Our outfits looked amazing!

Spring 1

 

What an amazing half term we have had! We have been so busy in 5TW and have been up to all sorts of exciting things. In Topic, we have been looking at the Tudors and learnt about how they came to power. We have done lots of research into the Tudors and in English have done some writing on the Battle of Bosworth. In Science, we have been looking at properties of materials and have done a variety of experiments to test the properties. In Maths, we have tackled division and fractions. We have also been doing animation workshops working towards filming our own animations and have had a Mindfulness workshop to help centre our minds.

 

We have also worked with children from other classes in our STEAM days and have just begun partnering up with year 3 as Reading buddies.

 

What a busy half term it has been!

Spring 1 - Animation Workshops

 

This week we have done our first two animation workshops. We learnt about different types of animation and created two of our own - the first using moving pictures and the second using Lego to create stop motion animation!

School Council Fundraising

 

This year, the school council would like children to create Christmas Cards and support Mission Christmas. 

 

Firstly, the children have been asked to make cards for people who may be lonely and isolated this Christmas. These should be done on card, be colourful and have a nice poem/message inside. Please return them to school for Thursday 11th November.

 

Secondly, we are supporting Mission Christmas in partnership with HITS radio. They send gifts to children who are less fortunate and otherwise wouldn't receive gifts at Christmas. Any donations would be gratefully received. Please remember to label the present with the appropriate age group. The deadline for gifts is Friday 10th December.  

 

Gift ideas are in the following age groups: 

 

0-3 years old - Teddies, Musical Toys, My First Toys, Rattles, Books, and Play Mats.

3-5 years old - Cars, Dolls, Jigsaws, Dress Up Items, Playdoh, Colouring Books and Pencils.

5-7 years old - Lego, Art and Craft Sets, Skipping Ropes, Make Your Own Photo Frame, Snow Globe, Jewellery Set, Action Figures and Board Games. 

7-9 years old - Footballs, Board Games, Remote Control Toys and Stationery Sets
9-12 years old - Board Games, Make Up Sets and Nail Varnish

Autumn 2 

 

We have been really busy this term and learnt all sorts of new things. We have been focusing on our grammar and composition in English, learning about the planets in Science and looking at impressionist art in Topic.

Anti-Bullying Week - W/C - 15.11.21

 

This week is anti-bullying week. On Monday, we came to school with odd socks on and throughout this week we have been looking at the effects of bullying in English. On Thursday, we had a fantastic anti-bullying workshop, where we learnt how to deal with bullying long term to help ourselves and others avoid becoming victims of bullying.

 

In our guided reading, we looked through a poem called Why? By Paul Jenkins and each performed a line.

Remembrance Day 11.11.21

 

This week we have been looking at Remembrance and what the poppy signifies. We created a display for our window and some poppies to be planted at our local church.

Black History Workshop - 8.10.21

 

This afternoon we had a fantastic Black History workshop in which we acted out the feelings of black people past and present and dug deep into how things have changed over the years.

 National Poetry Day 7.10.21

 

Today we have been looking at a variety of poems in English. We looked at two poems about famous black people inckuding Martin Luther King and we watched some of his ‘I have a dream’ speech.


We then performed Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred, Lord Tennyson in groups. Mr Whitehead is cutting together our video performances which will be uploaded shortly!

September 2021

 

What an amazing first few weeks. We have hit the ground running and been really busy! We have been learning about famous poet, Benjamin Zephaniah in English and completed fact files, we have learnt all about the Kingdom of Benin in Topic and created some artwork in the Kingdom’s style. In Science, we have started looking at forces and used Newton meters to measure mass and weight. The class have settled into year 5 so well and are really working hard!

 

Since then we have done even more amazing things! We have investigated the effects of friction and air resistance, done yoga and created Christmas cards! Scroll down to the second slideshow for more pictures.
