Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

Intent

At Stamford Park Primary School, we use the Kapow Primary’s RSE scheme, which is designed to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to lead confident, healthy and fulfilling lives, fostering self-awareness, empathy and positive relationships while helping them make informed choices that support their own wellbeing and that of others. Our scheme is rooted in statutory DfE guidance and informed by key non-statutory frameworks. The curriculum provides progressive learning across core areas—including relationships, health, safety, citizenship and economic wellbeing, with an additional focus on identity in Year 6—to build emotional literacy, resilience, respect for diversity and a strong foundation for safeguarding. We use inclusive resources, exploration of multiple perspectives and opportunities for discussion. The scheme promotes British values and cultural capital, enabling pupils to understand their rights and responsibilities, appreciate diversity and contribute thoughtfully to their communities.

Pupils are supported to understand their right to withdraw from certain activities, and parents are sent an email giving them the option to withdraw their child, with lessons focusing only on puberty and changes in the body.

Links to our values:

  • Respect – Valuing the opinions, feelings, and differences of others
  • Cooperation – Working collaboratively in discussions, group tasks, and shared decision-making
  • Consideration – Reflecting thoughtfully on the impact of choices and the perspectives of others
  • Resilience – Persisting in learning about complex or challenging social and emotional issues

National Curriculum Alignment:

Our RSE curriculum is designed in line with statutory DfE guidance for Relationships and Health Education, ensuring progression of knowledge, skills, and understanding across key stages. Pupils develop the confidence, emotional literacy, and social skills to make informed decisions, manage relationships, and maintain personal wellbeing. The curriculum supports pupils in understanding their rights and responsibilities, appreciating diversity, and preparing for the next stage of education and life.
