Geography

Intent

At Stamford Park Primary School, we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. We pride ourselves in our creative learning environment. Children are encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of the world and their place within it.

We aim for pupils to develop an understanding of the location of globally significant places, including physical and human characteristics. We want them to understand the processes that give rise to key physical and human features of the world, how these are interdependent and how they bring about spatial variations and changes over time. To achieve this, pupils will learn to use a variety of geographical skills, including mapping and fieldwork techniques. From an early age, we inspire the children natural curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, which we will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

Our curriculum intends to help pupils to develop the skills and knowledge that will enable them to understand the world in which they live in and to nurture a sense of responsibility for maintaining it. By finding out about the distinctive characteristics of landscapes, cultures and traditions around the world, children will also develop an appreciation and understanding of British values that have shaped the place where they live.

Links to our values:
Respect – Valuing different environments, cultures, and communities.
Cooperation – Working collaboratively during fieldwork and group tasks.
Consideration – Understanding the impact of human activity on the environment.
Resilience – Engaging in enquiry and problem-solving to deepen understanding.

National Curriculum Alignment:
Our curriculum is designed in line with the Primary National Curriculum to ensure coverage of statutory requirements, progression of geographical knowledge and skills, and preparation for the next stage of education.
