Maths

Intent

At Stamford Park Primary School, we believe that Mathematics is essential for everyday life and provides children with the skills to understand the world around them. Our curriculum is designed to develop confident mathematicians who can calculate fluently, reason clearly and solve problems effectively.

We follow the White Rose Maths scheme of learning to ensure our curriculum is ambitious, well-sequenced and aligned with the National Curriculum. However, we recognise that every cohort is different, so our curriculum is carefully adapted and personalised to meet the needs of our pupils. This ensures that all children, including those with SEND and disadvantaged pupils, can access learning, make progress and achieve their full potential.

Our aims are to ensure children:

  • Develop secure number sense and fluency in key mathematical skills
  • Reason mathematically using accurate vocabulary and explanations
  • Solve a range of problems and apply their learning in different contexts
  • Build confidence, resilience and independence in Mathematics
  • Are well-prepared for the next stage of their education

Links to our values:

Respect – Valuing different methods and approaches to problem solving.
Cooperation – Working collaboratively to explore and discuss mathematical ideas.
Consideration – Explaining reasoning clearly and listening to others.
Resilience – Persevering when solving complex or unfamiliar problems.

National Curriculum Alignment:

Our curriculum is designed in line with the Primary National Curriculum to ensure coverage of statutory requirements, progression of knowledge and skills, and preparation for the next stage of education.
