Stamford Park Primary School

Forest School

Our Forest School trained staff in EYFS are: Mr Wharton, Miss Skinner, Mrs Lynch and Mrs Johnson.

‘Forest Schools’ are a Scandinavian concept and were introduced into Britain in the 1990s.  We introduced the concept to Stamford Park in September 2016 because of its excellent reputation for developing children’s self-esteem and their speech and language skills. Also, we have an amazing park close to school.

Primarily, Forest Schooling has a wonderful effect on children’s social and emotional development. They become more confident and independent, and they learn to manage the risks they encounter (in a supported environment).

They have time to follow their own interests and to become engrossed in what they are doing. They have the opportunity to build dens and climb trees - all those experiences that children should have.  As the year progresses, they learn to use tools and learn about the outdoor environment - about birds and trees, flowers and insects.  They experience and understand the weather and seasons.
