Religious Education

Intent

The aim of RE at Stamford Park Primary School is to develop the children’s understanding of world faiths and beliefs by exploring their commonality and diversity. Our RE curriculum is focused on ‘respect’ and ‘consideration’, mirroring our school values to ensure our children gain an awareness of diversity and a sensitivity to questions and challenges that differing views and cultures can present. We aim to provide all our children with engaging learning opportunities, where questions can be asked and answered, knowledge can be expanded and built upon, and world-views can be explored.

RE uses big questions to encourage deeper thinking skills and breaks these questions down to allow children to explore the concepts and belief systems of our wider world. Re lessons provide children with a space to express individual ideas and insights about beliefs and cultures. Allowing them to develop ideas and opinions, while also listening to the ideas and opinions of others. Our RE curriculum uses opportunities for reflection to give children the time and space to consider their viewpoints and those of others.

Our RE lessons aim to provide children with religious literacy, where they will develop their knowledge and understanding of a variety of religions from around the world, religious traditions and world views. This gives our children the knowledge and skills to flourish both within their individual communities and as members of a diverse and ever-changing society.

Links to our values:

  • Respect – Listening to and valuing different beliefs, cultures, and perspectives
  • Cooperation – Engaging in discussions, sharing ideas, and learning collaboratively about worldviews
  • Consideration – Reflecting thoughtfully on others’ beliefs and cultural practices
  • Resilience – Persisting when exploring challenging questions and unfamiliar concepts

National Curriculum Alignment:

Our RE curriculum is designed in line with the statutory and locally agreed syllabus requirements, ensuring progression of knowledge, understanding, and skills across key stages. Pupils develop religious literacy, critical thinking, and the ability to engage with a variety of world-views. They are encouraged to explore beliefs, traditions, and values, understand their own perspectives, and respect those of others, preparing them to be thoughtful, informed members of a diverse society.
