Computing

Intent

At Stamford Park Primary School, we believe in preparing our pupils for the digital world, unlocking the potential that technology affords. Technology is changing the lives of everyone. Through teaching computing, we aim to equip our children to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology. It is our intention to enable children to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information, intrinsically linked with all subject areas within the national curriculum. We also focus on developing the skills necessary for children to be able to use information in a discriminating and effective way.

Computing skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative, and independent learners.

Online Safety

Online safety is a fundamental part of our curriculum. Pupils are taught how to stay safe online, make responsible choices, and understand the importance of privacy, respectful communication, and appropriate use of technology. This includes learning how to recognise risks, report concerns, and behave responsibly when using digital platforms. Pupils are supported to become confident, critical users of technology who can navigate an increasingly digital society.

Links to our values:

  • Respect – Using technology responsibly and showing respect in all online interactions.
  • Cooperation – Collaborating on digital tasks and solving problems together.
  • Consideration – Understanding the impact of online behaviour on others and thinking carefully about digital content.
  • Resilience – Persisting when debugging programs and solving computational challenges.

National Curriculum Alignment:

Our Computing curriculum is carefully designed in line with the Primary National Curriculum for Computing. It ensures coverage of the statutory requirements for computer science, information technology, and digital literacy, including online safety. The curriculum is sequenced to build pupils’ knowledge and skills progressively from EYFS through to Year 6, preparing them for the next stage of education and for life in a digital world.
